Gerard Gallant surprisingly praised the Rangers effort after his team was blanked 4-0 in game five, putting the Blueshirts on the brink of elimination after three straight losses.
It was a far cry from Gallant ripping his team after a “lazy” showing in game four, but Boomer clearly feels like another verbal undressing was deserved rather than a pat on the back.
“How many odd-man rushes did your team give up?” Boomer said. “How many unreal saves did Igor Shesterkin have to make to keep the game from getting completely out of hand? How many shots did your team have in the third period?
“You like the way your team played? My ass!”
If the Rangers can’t get past the rival Devils after leading the series 2-0 in dominant fashion, Boomer and Gio agree that Gallant may be on his way out, even after reaching the Eastern Conference Final last season.
“Jim Dolan ain’t gonna stand for this, I’m just telling you,” Boomer said. “This is a Gallant moment.
“Hockey coaches get fired all the time.”
