Patrick Kane briefly looked to be on the cusp of bringing exactly what the Rangers hoped he would from Chicago, but the future Hall of Famer has now looked like a once great player on his last legs.

Kane struggled to stay out of the penalty box, or to slow down the speedy Devils, in a disastrous game five effort, the fourth game this series where he has looked overmatched. Boomer believes it’s more than just aging, and that the Rangers may have been fleeced at the trade deadline.

“There’s something wrong with him physically,” Boomer said. “Maybe the Rangers got sold a bill of goods that he was healthy, and he’s not healthy. That’s what he looks like to me.

“I think they got damaged goods with Patrick Kane.”

Kane had a hip injury with the Blackhawks shortly before the trade, but just before the deal was struck, he logged 10 points in four games to seemingly put out those concerns. Now, they’re back, and whether the Rangers were fleeced or not, Kane simply has to play better.

“He looks like he’s skating in mud against the Devils,” Boomer said. “I don’t know what he’s doing.

“They’re trying to move him around and get him away from people. Guys are skating past him…a lot of times he gets the puck, he’s turning it over.”
