Talk about taking home-ice advantage a bit too far?
The Carolina Hurricanes have implemented a “restricted sales area” for tickets for Games 1 and 2 (and if necessary, 5 and 7) of their series with the New York Rangers, preventing anyone from outside of a small region around Raleigh, North Carolina, from purchasing tickets.
Our friends at SNY tried to do so, and this is the disclaimed they were met with before they were able to purchase tix:
“Very Important!! PNC Arena is located in Raleigh, NC. Sales to this event will be restricted to residents of North Carolina/South Carolina and Southern Virginia. Residency will be based on credit card billing address. Orders by residents outside North Carolina/South Carolina and Southern Virginia will be canceled without notice and refunds given."
In discussing the move on Carton & Roberts, Craig and Evan mentioned during their SNY simulcast that the team can spin it as a move to prevent brokers from buying large chunks of tickets and re-selling them – but what happens if we get to Wednesday afternoon, hours ahead of puck drop, and the game is not sold out?
SNY’s venture to buy tickets revealed that there was still a large quantity of tickets available as of Monday afternoon, a stark contrast to the situation for Games 3, 4, and possibly 6 at MSG, which are already sold out and going for no lower than $392 on resale markets.
