Morash rips idea that Rangers have been 'lucky,' outplayed against Panthers
The Rangers are up 2-1 in the Eastern Conference Final, though many fans, and even some analysts, believe Florida has looked like the better team for major chunks of the series so far.
But Shaun Morash pushes back strongly on the idea that the Blueshirts have been "lucky" in this series, and says not only is New York the better team, but that the series feels like it's over, and the Rangers will be advancing to its first Stanley Cup in 30 years.
"The idea and over-explanation over the entire weekend in two games that this Ranger team has been severely outplayed, and how fortunate that they are up 2-1…it's insane, it's mind-boggling, and it makes me wonder, is anyone out there actually watching these hockey games?" Morash said.
Morash says there is way too much emphasis being put on shots taken by the Panthers, and it neglects that the shot quality matters, not just flinging pucks through traffic and towards the net. The Hurricanes series proved it, and that mentality should remain in this conference final.
"Shots taken and shots attempted…it's about shots on goal," Morash said, who also noted that shots taken matters even less when the man between the pipes is Igor Shesterkin. "The goalie wears a jersey for the team…when indicating who the better team has been, the goalie counts."
