As the Rangers’ search for a new head coach continues, a recognizable name has reportedly moved up near the top of the list.
According to Vince Mercogliano of USA Today, longtime NHL head coach Peter Laviolette is “at or near the top” of the Blueshirts’ list of candidates after he reportedly interviewed with the team last week.
Per Mercogliano, Laviolette also interviewed with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Laviolette would bring a familiarity to the New York area thanks to his coaching experience with the Islanders, while he has also been behind the bench with the Hurricanes, Flyers, Predators, and Capitals.
He reached the Stanley Cup Final with Nashville in 2017.
