No NHL team cashed more Under tickets than the New York Rangers the last three years (2021, 2021-22, and 2022-23). And through the first five months of the 2023-24 season, they were on pace for another profitable year.

Then came March and Over bettors rejoiced.

Entering this season, the Under hit in a staggering 57.3% of Rangers games the previous three seasons. The ROI of 9.8% over that time was nearly three percentage points higher than the next closest team, the Winnipeg Jets (6.9%).

And while the Under didn’t dominate at that pace through mid-March this season, it was still 33-31-1 (51.5%). But it hit only four times in their final 17 games — by far the team’s worst stretch for Unders in more than four years — to give the Rangers’ Over a profitable season for the first time since 2018-19.

Through the first four games of the postseason, it’s been split, 2-2. It’s worth noting one of the Over wins came on an empty-net goal with 51 seconds remaining in Game 4.

As of Tuesday, the league-wide Over is 17-14-1 (54.8%) this postseason.
