The Rangers have continued to clean house after missing the playoffs in year three of their rebuild plan, firing head coach David Quinn along with assistant coaches David Oliver, Jacques Martin and Greg Brown after letting go of team president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton last week.

“I would like to thank David Quinn, David Oliver, Jacques Martin, and Greg Brown for all of their efforts and dedication to the Rangers,” new team president and GM Chris Drury said. “I wish each of them the best in their future endeavors. We will begin our search for a new head coach immediately.”

Quinn oversaw New York’s rebuild as head coach for each of the past three seasons, leading the team to a 96-87-25 record in that span. The team finished 27-23-6 this season, coming up short of the playoffs after losing in the qualifying round last year in the NHL bubble.

The Rangers, continuing to clean house, will look to build a playoff team after missing out on the postseason each of the past four seasons.
A letter was sent out to fans in 2018 mapping out the team’s rebuild plan, which had so far netted the team the No. 2 overall pick in Kaapo Kakko in 2019, the No. 1 overall pick Alexis Lafreniere in 2020, and signing Artemi Panarin. But CEO James Dolan, seemingly unsatisfied with the progress so far in terms of wins and losses, cleaned house in the front office, and his hire to replace Davidson and Gorton in Drury has now cleaned out the coaching staff.
