Vincent Trocheck is reportedly headed to New York, as our own Paul Rosenberg reported on Wednesday night well before free agency opened.

The news has since also been reported by ESPN’s Emily Kaplan and others, and will give the Rangers some valuable strength at the center position, an area of need after it was reported that Andrew Copp would not be coming back to the Blueshirts.

The deal is reportedly for seven years, while Copp is reportedly headed to the Red Wings on a five-year deal for an identical AAV.

Trocheck is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, scoring 21 goals and logging 30 assists while missing just one game all season. In the playoffs for the Hurricanes, he tallied 10 points in 11 games before Carolina fell in seven games to the Rangers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The signing brings Trocheck back together with head coach Gerard Gallant, who was behind the bench when Trocheck was with the Panthers.
