Recent call-up Julien Gauthier wows with ultimate hustle goal to help halt Rangers skid

The Rangers erupted in the third period on Saturday afternoon to grab a road win against the Stars and snap their four-game losing streak, and recent call-up Julien Gauthier boasted the highlight of the day.

Leading 4-3 with 8:30 left in the third, Gauthier chased down a clear from Sammy Blais, who lifted the puck high out of the Blueshirts zone and out just short of center ice. Instead of using it as an opportunity to recollect following a Dallas push, Gauthier ran the puck down just as it fell back to the ice, muscled his way through two Stars defenders, lunged to poke the puck out of the reach of goalkeeper Scott Wedgewood, and while nearly losing his balance following the redirection from Wedgewood, fired the puck into the net from a sharp angle to extend the lead to 5-3.

New York scored again shortly after to put the game away for good.

Gauthier was called up from Hartford earlier this week before the Rangers' road tilt with the Islanders. He played at least 30 games with New York over the last two years but was sent to Hartford after the preseason. In just his second game back, he made a profound impact.
