In a move that is expected to move the Rangers closer to swinging a deal for Patrick Kane, the Blueshirts have placed Jake Leschyshyn on waivers to shed some salary.

Leschyshyn, 23, carries a current salary of $750,000 and a cap hit of $766,667. He was seen as a prime candidate to be unloaded as the Rangers reportedly work to make Kane’s salary fit.

Leschyshyn has played less than 10 minutes of ice time in 11 of his last 13 games, and was held out of Thursday night’s loss to the Red Wings for “roster management reasons,” another sign that the team was working to swing a deal for Kane.

Meanwhile, Kane will not play Saturday night for the Blackhawks, as his agent Pat Brisson told NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, “Based on the current status of Patrick’s situation, we collectively felt it was more appropriate to have him not play during this period of reflection.”

The Blueshirts and Blackhawks reportedly continue to iron out the structure of a Kane trade.
