Rangers place three in COVID protocol, call up goalie Keith Kinkaid

The New York Rangers have placed defensemen Ryan Lindgren and Jarred Tinordi and goaltender Alexandar Georgiev in COVID protocols, the team announced late Sunday.

Although the NHL decided to extend their holiday break by postponing all games on Monday, Sunday was the first day teams were allowed to return to practice. The Rangers also originally placed Patrik Nemeth in protocols as well, but he cleared on Monday morning.

The Rangers can add players to their taxi squad to replace the defensemen, but they have called up Keith Kinkaid from Hartford to serve as Igor Shesterkin's backup.

Kinkaid has made one appearance for the Blueshirts this year, making 29 saves in a 3-2 win over Arizona on Dec. 16, and he has a 2.53 GAA and 8-4-2 record overall in two seasons with the Rangers.

He will be behind Shesterkin when the Rangers resume play Wednesday with a visit to the Florida Panthers.
