Less than a week ago, Sal declared the Rangers would march to a sweep of the rival Devils if they took game two in Newark.
The Blueshirts did just that, only to drop both games at Madison Square Garden to make it a brand new series heading back to The Rock, which showed Sal that this team may not have what it takes to win it all.
"I still feel like the Rangers are going to win this series," Sal said. "But, to me, this showed that they don't have the championship killer instinct that you need. They needed to go up 3-1 here. They're at home, for goodness sake. Win one of two. That's not asking that much.
"This showed me more about their future than about this current series. They may still win this series, but I did not like what I saw at all in game four."
If the Blueshirts are to win this series, as Sal still believes will happen, they will have to solve new Devils goalie Akira Schmid, who has allowed just two goals since taking over for Vitek Vanecek after game two.
"The Rangers gotta stop making him look like Marty Brodeur," Sal said.
