Boomer is thinking big after Rangers win, but stop asking him to touch the Stanley Cup!

Just hours after the Rangers took game one of the Eastern Conference Final, moving them to just seven wins from hockey immortality, the Stanley Cup was in the house at WFAN studios.

And while Boomer admittedly has higher expectations for his Blueshirts after their drubbing of the two-time defending champs in Wednesday’s series opener, he doesn’t want to hear any more talk about touching the Cup!

“If you love me and care about me and believe in me, then you’ll stop with the nonsense about me touching the Cup,” Boomer said during Thursday’s show. “I don’t want you to annoy me. I want you to stop it right now.

“The NHL knows where I stand. Everyone over there understands who I am…how much I love this sport and the players, and they know I understand the traditions, and they know I’ll never touch it. There’s no discussion.”

Sure enough, the Cup was wheeled into Boomer and Gio’s studio, and Jerry gave it an air hug, but Boomer in no way wants to break tradition or jinx his Rangers.

But after Wednesday’s win, he could see the 2021-22 Rangers having their names etched on that Cup.

“Now we have expectations,” Boomer said. “But we also have expectations because of the four guys they added at the trade deadline. All four guys have paid dividends in a big way.

“I’m excited. I love the way that third line played last night…I can’t argue with anything that happened last night.”
