Rangers trade RW Austin Rueschhoff to Nashville

Not yet Patrick Kane, but the Rangers did announce a trade on Tuesday afternoon: they have shipped right wing Austin Rueschhoff to Nashville for future considerations.

Rueschhoff, 25, signed a one-year, $750K deal with the Rangers last July, so his departure saves another $200K or so for the cap-strapped Rangers as they work on finalizing a deal for Kane.

Undrafted out of Western Michigan in 2020, Rueschhoff has spent all three of his pro seasons in the Rangers' organization, playing at AHL Hartford. He has two goals and nine assists in 31 games this season, and in 113 games over three seasons, he has 20 goals and 23 assists.

The Blueshirts have been making moves to try to accommodate Kane's salary in a potential deal from Chicago, although earlier Tuesday, ESPN reported that the Rangers and Blackhawks were actually joining the Coyotes in a three-team deal, with Arizona getting a 2025 third-round pick from the Rangers in exchange for retaining 50 percent of Kane's remaining salary, with the Blackhawks retaining 50 percent of what's left of his $10.5 million cap hit.
