Steve Somers filled in for a holiday Schmooze on Memorial Day, and he stuck with the Blueshirts as the centrepiece of his opening monologue.
After the Rangers took a 2-1 series lead in the conference final, Steve praised the team for its fight, and its ability to steal wins despite looking outplayed at times on the ice during this series with the Panthers. As stars have struggled, the likes of Barclay Goodrow and others have stepped up, all behind the stellar play of Igor Shesterkin.
Steve says it is the makeup of a champion.
“How do you sit still if you’re watching the New York Rangers? If you’re not on the edge of your seat, you’re standing up,” Steve said. “Hanging in there is what the New York Rangers have been doing since Friday night.
“As resilient, they are as can be. Bending but not breaking. Refusing to lose. They have been hit hard…the last team standing, they have been since Friday night. Allowing you to finally exhale, and remember what a team with a heart that keeps beating can do.”
