The New York Rangers have a strong hold on an Eastern Conference playoff spot, but one of their key reserve pieces is drawing some serious trade interest.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Vegas Golden Knights have interest in backup goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, who is 7-7-2 with a 2.99 goals against average and an .898 save percentage in 20 games (17 starts) behind Igor Shesterkin this season entering play Thursday.

Vegas is without top goaltender Robin Lehner, who has an upper body injury that is rumored to be a torn labrum in his shoulder that will eventually require surgery, so they are shopping around for someone to pair with Laurent Brossoit.

Seravalli also reported that the Golden Knights had interest in a possible reunion with Marc-Andre Fleury, who goaltended them to a Stanley Cup Final in 2018 and won the Vezina Trophy last year before being traded over the summer, but his contract situation ($7 million cap hit) is an issue.

Georgiev, who just turned 26, is due to be a restricted free agent after the season, and is making $2.65 million with just a $2.425 million cap hit, plus he could be retained next season.

The Rangers have three goalies currently at AHL Hartford: Tyler Wall, Adam Huska, and Keith Kinkaid, the latter two of which have each started one game for the Blueshirts this season.

Shesterkin, who has played just 30 games this season due to both injury and COVID-19 protocols, is a serious candidate for the Vezina Trophy despite the missed time, carrying a 23-5-2 record and 2.05 GAA through 30 games this season into play Thursday night.
