Interim offensive coordinator Nunzio Campanile is leaving the Rutgers coaching staff, he announced on Twitter Tuesday, saying “it’s time to move on after five great years.”
The announcement comes three days after head coach Greg Schiano named former Minnesota offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca, who was on his Rutgers staff from 2008-10, as the new OC and QB coach on Saturday.

Campanile joined Rutgers in 2018 as the running backs coach, moving to tight ends in 2019, and he ended up as the interim head coach when Chris Ash was fired weeks into the season. He was 1-7 as interim HC, but was the only coach from Ash’s staff retained by Greg Schiano when he was hired prior to the 2020 season.
He was the tight ends coach for three seasons under Schiano, adding interim offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach to his resume this past October after the dismissal of OC Sean Gleeson.
Prior to joining the Scarlet Knights, Campanile, a 1999 Montclair State alum, spent 2000-09 as the offensive coordinator at powerhouse Don Bosco Prep and was the head coach at Bergen Catholic from 2010-17, going 60-28 and winning a state title in 2017.
