St. Peter’s has become the face of March Madness, and arguably the most improbable Cinderella run that the tournament has ever seen.
But after knocking out Purdue to become the first 15th seed to ever reach the Elite Eight, the Peacocks aren’t resting on their laurels, or their tail feathers.
They have plans to make even more noise in March, and continue playing into April.
“We’re happy, but no mistake, we’re not satisfied,” junior guard Doug Edert said. “We’re not satisfied at all.”
Of course, there is already plenty for Saint Peter’s fans to be excited about. The mid-major darlings have already stunned blue blood Kentucky in overtime, took down fellow mid-major Murray State to become just the third 15th seed to ever reach the Sweet 16, and now stand on a mountaintop of their own as the lowest seed to ever be one of the final eight teams still standing.
But with each improbably victory, Saint Peter’s grows hungry for more, hoping to reach the peak of a different mountain by winning the whole damn thing. The next obstacle on that upward climb is another blue blood in North Carolina, the last hurdle standing between the Peacocks and a Final Four berth.
“The job’s not finished,” Edert said. “We feel like we belong, and the more games we win, the more confidence we build. We have a great amount of momentum going into next game, and we’re gonna play has hard as we can, just as we have all season, to keep doing what we’re doing.”
