Sal made it clear that he wasn’t happy with the culture of voting for the Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after the class of 2024 was announced.
Noting voters openly revealing that they voted for players because they didn’t want to be the reason a player didn’t get in, Sal blew a gasket on what the entire process has become.
“How the hell is that justification for voting for somebody?” Sal said. “He’s either a Hall of Famer or he’s not! You’re overthinking it! You guys aren’t God! Make a choice and stick with it. You don’t even know what you’re doing anyway. How do you not get 75 percent of people to vote for Billy Wagner as a Hall of Famer? Are you kidding me? Get your head out of your ass and vote for the Hall of Fame the right way!
“Are you out of your mind? That’s how you’re gonna vote for the Hall of Fame? ‘I don’t want Jeter to be unanimous…so I’m gonna be the one to not vote for him.’ What if everyone did that?”
It also didn’t help Sal that Billy Wagner didn’t get the necessary votes, even if he is trending to be voted in until next year.
“Billy Wagner is a Hall of Famer, any way you slice it,” Sal said.
“It’s criminal that he has to wait until his last year of eligibility to get in.”
