Sal: Mets should be the ones aggressively buying at trade deadline, not Yankees
Sal has maintained for weeks that the Yankees have far too many flaws on their roster to be worth saving at the trade deadline, and after another Subway Series beatdown, he is tripling down on that declaration.
But he is also declaring that the Mets should be aggressively adding at the deadline as they continue to look like one of the best teams in baseball for nearly two months.
"The Yankees are dead and the Mets killed them!" Sal said. "The Mets should go crazy at the deadline and be buyers!
"[The Yankees] have been one of the worst teams in baseball since June 7, and would be the worst if not for one of the worst teams in the history of the sport in the White Sox."
Sal doesn't want to hear any more talk about the Yankees simply being in a funk. It has been seven weeks of putrid baseball, and he says they clearly aren't worth investing in and sacrificing prospect capital for, even with Juan Soto in tow. However, the Mets are making it more and more justifiable to be aggressive at the deadline and go for a legit playoff push down the stretch, and maybe more.
"Since June 7, we're talking about seven weeks, the Mets have been the best team in baseball, and the Yankees have been the second worst," Sal said. "This is not one little rough patch…this is a big problem…the Yankees can't be saved at the deadline.
"If there's a team in town that should be buyers, it's the New York Mets."
