The Super Bowl had a thrilling overtime finish and almost certainly will go down as one of the most viewed Super Bowl ever, but Sal doesn’t feel the level of juice that should be felt in the biggest game of the NFL season.
“There is zero atmosphere because they’re playing in a neutral site…I never felt like this was the most important game,” Sal said. “It’s a mundane atmosphere, minimal excitement. This is the Super Bowl!
“I think a lot of that has to do where it’s played, the time in between the championship week, and the Super Bowl itself.”
The Super Bowl can, at times, feel like a celebration of football as a national spectacle, and Sal says it sometimes can take away from the football aspect of it.
“I didn’t feel like it was the Super Bowl,” Sal said. “I didn’t feel like it was the playoffs! It felt like a glorified exhibition.
“It’s only getting worse at it goes on.”
