Jerry proposed a dramatic trade to Gio between the Yankees and Mets, and it actually had Gio strongly considering the move.
It would be a one for one: Giancarlo Stanton for Max Scherzer.
“I know that sounds crazy…but he loves Citi Field,” Jerry said of Stanton. “It makes you think.”
Gio gave it some serious consideration, though Stanton comes with a load of health problems and a big contract, though that never seems to be a problem for Steve Cohen.
“He has performed well in the postseason for the Yankees…but he has put together some brutal regular seasons for them,” Gio said. “I want him to play in the field. I know there’s a DH in both leagues now, so it’s not like he has to, but I feel like he’s not a terrible defensive player, and I feel like he’s more locked in at the plate when he is in the field. If you could tell me he’d play a significant amount of outfield, why not?”
The deciding factor for Gio may just be his desire for the Mets to move on from Scherzer and his $43 million salary.
“I want Scherzer out of here in the worst way,” Gio said.
