Rick Wolff's Sports Edge: High School NIL, coach culpability, and COVID concerns

I went through a bunch of very timely topics on my show this week. Specifically:

In light of what’s happened with the new NIL rules for college athletes, are you seeing what’s now happening to HS athletes who want the same rules to apply to them?

This is an issue we’ve talked about over the course of the spring and summer — as to whether HS athletes can cash in too – and now we’re beginning to see some actual case studies,

And from the Sports Edge Police Blotter…did you read that a couple of HS basketball coaches were charged with second degree murder in the death of a 16-year-old player – all due to extreme heat and humidity?

And sadly, there are rising concerns about HS, youth, and club sports for this fall due to a rise in the Delta variant of Covid, especially with teenage athletes…are we going to have a repeat of what happened last year in terms of a postponement of games and shorter seasons? Sadly, there’s growing confusion regarding high risk sports and vaccinations with teenagers…

The reality this time around is that we now want kids over the age of 12 to all be vaccinated, but the current numbers show that only around 50% are. That could have some real distressing impact as we get set for the start of the HS sports season – especially with high-risk sports like football.

Anyway, we covered a lot of urgent issues in a short period of time. See below for the link.
