A major case was argued before the US Supreme Court this past week, and by all accounts, the Justices all took turns in peppering the NCAA’s legal team as to whether the traditional usage of “college student-athlete” has perhaps become outdated, primarily due to the imbalance of major college sports and the revenue they generate for the college program, coaches, and the NCAA – but with the athletes themselves not receiving a dime.
It’s predicted that the Court will hand down its decision in late June.
While no one can predict what the Court will decide, it’s clear that their decision will have a major impact on the future of the NCAA, and whether college scholarship athletes can profit from their own name, likeness and license deals.
