Rick Wolff's Sports Edge: Should NJ change the state's HS Sports calendar?

We all recognize that the traditional HS sports schedule has three seasons: fall sports, winter sports, and spring sports. The problem is, depending on the sport, the various start and end dates can vary tremendously. This can cause real havoc for everybody involved, including the AD's, principals, coaches, parents, and of course the athletes.

Things can really get very complicated if there is overlap from one season into the next one. Lots of parents are concerned about their athletes doing too much with sports, as burnout and repetitive use injuries come into focus.

In New Jersey, their Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) is in the process of trying to remedy all of this. Problem is, as with any new proposed changes, there is considerable concern as to whether this new proposed schedule will work, or whether it will just make life even more complicated.

Take a listen to the show below. The first two segments deal with the HS sports calendar issue. Then later on, I give my own perspective on how MLB can revitalize more interest in baseball with the next generation of kids.
