Stu Feiner, sports betting extraordinaire, can often be heard calling in to The Morning Show to chat with Boomer and Gio, but this week, he was on the horn with Pete Hoffman on the latest episode of The Fight Fan.

Feiner stopped by to talk about the betting approach for UFC fights, which plays right into his strategy of loading up on the underdogs.

“I’ve been gambling since 1982 as a professional…UFC, baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, it doesn’t matter to me,” Feiner said. “I want to be against the grain and against the public…if that’s how you live and die, you’re gonna make money gambling.”

UFC is a great sport for bettors like Feiner, who prefer to take chances on the underdogs, as UFC fights tend to have a large amount of parity when it comes to betting outcomes.

“Underdogs are so alive in every single fight in the UFC,” Feiner said. “I would bet if you look back the last five years, and blindly, without even handicapping the match, if you took the underdog, you absolutely are up a ton of money. Not a little amount of money, a lot. But that’s not how it goes. Most people want to lay the number and take the favorite because the underdog could get knocked out in seconds, but that’s not how it goes.”

WFAN’s own Danielle McCartan hopes her friend Meisha Tate’s fight doesn’t follow that trend, as Tate is favored in her bout against Marion Reneau on Saturday night. McCartan also joined The Fight Fan to talk about her friendship with Tate, and how nervous she will be watching Tate in the octagon on Saturday.

“You’re watching a friend go into battle,” McCartan said. “It’s like when I used to play sports, my mom was always more nervous than I ever was in situations, so I feel like that’s this sort of situation. But when I watched her as the press conference…she is ready to go. There’s no way she’s gonna lose this fight.”
