Tiki and Tierney say March Madness doesn't have the same buzz: 'The game has changed'

March Madness is in full swing, and got fully underway while Tiki and Tierney got underway for their Thursday show, and both agree that they don't feel the usual excitement for this year's tournament.

"I don't want to be that guy on the first day of the tournament and say 'it doesn't feel the way it used to,' or 'it doesn't quite have the buzz,'" Tierney said, before doing just that. "But I guess I am gonna be that guy, because it doesn't quite have the same buzz."

Why does BT not feel the typical buzz around March? He believes it's a product of the current landscape of college basketball, where players aren't part of their programs long enough to establish individual identities or rivalries that enhance the NCAA Tournament.

"It's gonna be good, but the biggest difference…the thing that bothers me the most, is the name recognition is just not there," Tierney said.

Tiki wholeheartedly agreed, saying the top players that dominate the tournament are gone too soon, lost to the NBA Draft before they can make repeat appearances in March to add to the intrigue.

"They're not around long enough to become household names," Tiki said.

Tiki also believes the style of basketball has taken away from the excitement, leading both to believe that there just isn't as much madness surrounding March this year.

"The biggest issue with college basketball is a lack of familiarity and the lack of youth coaching for these kids, who then go onto college for their one-and-done season, and all they want to do is dribble, cross you up, and drain 3-pointers," Tiki said. "The game has changed."
