BT wants to know: Why are we New York sports fans always so negative?

It was an abbreviated Tiki and Tierney show on Thursday due to the Yankees doubleheader, but it was still enough time for Tierney to have a revelation.

After ripping into Tiki's claim that the 2022 Mets could go on to be the best team in franchise history, Tierney had a night to think it over, and realized that he had fallen into the same pattern as many New York sports fans who are consistently demanding or expecting historic greatness from their teams.

"We get so wrapped up in the minutiae where we don't actually enjoy what's in front of us," Tierney said. "It's our nature, because everything in this city is hard…all the things we have to deal with. We sign on for it, but we stay. That's just how we're brought up. It's a fast pace. There's always been this gravitational pull to the negative."

BT himself admits he falls into it, given his assertive claims that the Mets needed to add another power bat, and the Yankees needed to get rid of Aaron Hicks, while both teams have the best record in their respective leagues. Sometimes it's warranted, but right now, with the Yanks and Mets rolling, the Rangers three wins away from a Stanley Cup berth, and the Giants and Jets turning in promising offseasons, can't we just be happy?

"Leon Hess, rest in peace, but those Jets were a travesty most years," BT said. Isiah [Thomas's] Knicks, rip away. Mickey Callaway's Mets, have fun…the recent iterations of the Giants and Gettleman, go for it.

"But even when things are going so well, why are we so wired to focus on the negative?"

Perhaps it's the nature of the city and those who populate it, or maybe for fans of teams like the Yankees or Giants, fans grew up watching them win consistently and expect it on a regular basis. No matter the reason, BT notices it in himself, and thinks it's about time fans enjoy the ride.

"All we focus on is what they need rather than what they have," BT said. "This is the first time it's really hit me this way…it's how I'm wired. I think we are way too hard on the locals."
