After watching Thursday night’s flag fest between the Cowboys and Seahawks, Tiki had to open Friday’s show by debuting the first-ever Cinco de Tik-O.
The topic? The top five trends that will make Tiki stop watching football.
Thursday’s game provided some of those narratives, which frustrated Tiki.
“It was borderline unwatchable,” Tiki said. “Even with all the points that were scored.
“There is not much that can make me not want to watch the NFL…but over the last two years, things have started to get out of whack with the NFL. I feel like more and more of us, including me - and it was never me - are complaining about the referees and the officials.”
Here is Tiki’s top five.
QB play continues to suck. I know we talk about all these young quarterbacks, and how they’re just learning. But when it’s so bad that you can’t watch it, that’s gonna get me to turn it off eventually…it’s getting close.
It becomes so soft like powderpuff…if the game ever gets so soft that you can play it, I’m not watching it.
If football ever becomes not real, that it’s scripted…if it ever gets to the point where it feels not real, and it’s entertainment for entertainment purposes, I’m not watching.
It becomes ubiquitous, meaning it’s all the time. It’s like baseball. You can watch baseball on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday.
Hell, you can watch doubleheaders on Saturday. It’s every damn day…I don’t want to watch football every day of the week.
Incompetence. If it gets to the point where all I’m talking about is the penalties, and not the actual excellence of a football game…I’m not watching the game anymore.
Some of those trends are already underway, and Tiki can only hope that things are done to get rid of them, as this season has shown some of the uglier parts of watching the NFL (though TV ratings this year suggest that fans don’t seem to be bothered).
“I love the game…but it’s changed,” Tiki said. “The things that are happening in the NFL are changing, and it’s not for the good.”
