Tommy Lugauer would rather have Daniel Jones than Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback?

Just call him Hot Take Tommy (among other things Craig probably calls him that we can’t share here) – for a couple hours after dropping the thought that the Knicks can win with Julius Randle on the roster, he dropped a football bombshell befitting a Giants fan: he’d rather have Daniel Jones under center than Aaron Rodgers?

“Going into this season, all the hype is going to be on Aaron Rodgers; when he passes gas, we’re going to hear about it, and I get it, because he’s a superstar and the Jets finally have a quarterback, and fans are excited and they should be,” Tommy said. “But, the answer for me is simple: it’s Daniel Jones. Last year, he made the playoffs and won a playoff game, not Rodgers, and both the Jets and Daniel Jones beat Aaron Rodgers last year.”

To be fair, Rodgers is 39 years old and had the worst season of his career in 2022, while Jones is 26 and fresh off his best (and not learning a new old system with the Jets) – and in Loogy’s eyes, while the four-time NFL MVP and former Super Bowl champion’s best days are behind him, even in a new system, Jones is the one who is on the rise in the right system.

“I will admit, the night the Giant drafted Daniel Jones, I was very upset, and I was critical of him a lot – and I thought best-case scenario last year was they win a few games, get rid of Jones, and Brian Daboll can draft and develop a quarterback,” Loogy said. “But then, all of a sudden, last year, they got some pieces and won a playoff game – and the last time we saw Rodgers on the field, he had a home game, Sunday Night Football, with everything on the line, and he got smacked by the Lions. The best is yet to come with Jones, but you’re not getting the Rodgers of yesteryear.”

The thing with the past, Loogy says, is that it’s the past – so the Jets may get some short-term juice, but it’s Jones and the Giants who are set up for the long-term.

“How many albums did Frank Sinatra sell last year? Yeah,” Loogy said. “Not taking away anything from the legend that is Aaron Rodgers, he’s a Hall of Famer, but he’s not going to waltz in here and be elite. Aging quarterbacks break down – and I understand Tom Brady, who made it look easy at his age – and all the pressure is on him, while the Giants are a lunch-pail organization, and they’re young and ready to ascend. Time is undefeated, and Rodgers isn’t getting any younger, and he isn’t going to get any better.”

Listen above to hear all of Tommy’s reasons he’s rather have Danny Dimes than A-Rod!
