Pete Hoffman talked to a pair of UFC 265 victors on the latest episode of The Fight Fan.

Johnny Munoz Jr. beat Jamey Simmons last weekend by submission in the second round, his first UFC fight in almost exactly a year. It was his first time back in the UFC forum with fans in the arena, and a packed house watched Kid Kvenbo move to 11-1-0 in his career.

“Man, it was amazing,” Munoz said of the atmosphere. “I don’t even know how to describe it. It was a great feeling. I felt great leading up to the fight…but what reassured me even more was when they opened the curtain and all the fans were there. It was like ‘This is where I belong.’”

Vince Morales took the octagon for a crucial bout against Drako Rodriguez at UFC 265, his first bout since May of 2020. But Morales, too focused on getting his fighting career back on track, didn’t notice any rust in his win via unanimous decision.

“I don’t think I felt very rusty,” Morales said. “The experience felt a little rusty for me. It’s fight week, so there’s a lot going through it. This was a little after two years since my first time making bantamweight as well, so I was a little nervous about the cut, but it went smoothly. I was coming off two losses, potentially with my job on the line. I think my frame of mind was where it needed to be going into it…I felt like I was ready however the fight was gonna take place.”

It was Morales’ first win since May of 2019.
