Boomer & Gio: What are odds of Buck Showalter, Aaron Boone being fired after Sunday?

As the Mets and Yankees begin their final series of the season, ending the 2023 campaign far earlier than either expected, will both return with the same manager in 2024?

With David Stearns taking over as Mets president of baseball operations, he could seek out a new voice in the clubhouse rather than bringing back Buck Showalter for the final year of his deal. Meanwhile, with Hal Steinbrenner reportedly growing fed up with falling short of a pennant, could decide after the team's upcoming audit that Aaron Boone shouldn't be brought back for his final year under contract.

But Gio doesn't anticipate either of those scenarios unfolding.

"I'm gonna say both guys are back," Gio said. "I think there's a chance. Maybe a 30 percent chance for Aaron Boone, 10 percent for Buck Showalter. I can't see them moving on from Buck after two years."

As for Boomer, he doesn't see Boone as the problem, and believe blame for the team's disappointment lies with injuries and the architect of the roster.

"The Yankees are over .500. I know fans are disgusted, but they're more disgusted with the product that Brian Cashman put on the field," Boomer said. "At the end of the day, they lost their best player for a long time, and their first baseman for a long time."
