A caller posed a question to the Carton and Roberts crew on Tuesday that sparked a fiery debate.
If you could time travel to one sporting event in history, what would you want to be in attendance for to watch happen in real life?
Evan came out almost instantly with his first pick.
“I would want to be at Giants/Dodgers, The Shot Heard Round the World, when Bobby Thompson took Ralph Branca deep,” Evan said, noting the classic deciding game of a three-game playoff to determine the National League pennant winners in 1951 at the Polo Grounds.
Craig quickly dismissed that as an acceptable answer, but Evan had a pivot anyway.
“I apologize. Babe Ruth. Did he call his shot?” Evan said. “I’ve said this in the past. I need to know. Did he call his shot. I want to be at Yankees/Cubs.”
C-Mac sided with Evan’s pick, but Craig still couldn’t get behind it.
“If it didn’t happen, it’s never talked about,” Craig said. “It’s not a thing. Nobody thinks it’s a thing.
“You don’t want to see Roger Maris hit his 61st home run? You don’t want to see Jackie Robinson play his first game with the Dodgers? You don’t want to see Wilt Chamberlain score 100 points?”
Evan noted that he would rather go to an event that he isn’t able to already watch highlights of, but Loogy couldn’t believe a Mets superfan like Evan wasn’t picking a moment involving his beloved team.
“I want to go see my team win a championship,” Loogy said. “Mets World Series, 1986, game seven.”
Evan chimed in with one more candidate.
“You know what would be up there? The entire 1919 World Series, the Black Sox scandal,” Evan said. “I would want to go back and watch every game of that World Series.”
Finally, Craig gave his answer.
“I think I’d like to see Ali/Frazier at The Garden, or Ali/Foreman in Africa,” Craig said. “I think that would be cool to watch that, two of the greatest fights of all time.”
