Wizards draft pick Johnny Davis was one spot away from NYC - home of two of his faves?

Johnny Davis was selected at No. 10 by the Washington Wizards, one spot ahead of where the Knicks held their first-round pick…and as it turns out, he was one pick away from possibly sharing a town with his idol.

"I wasn't a fan of any NBA team really, growing up," Davis told The Sports Junkies on sister station 106.7 The Fan in DC Monday, "but I always followed Kevin Durant, he was my favorite player."

One pick later and theoretically, Davis could have been in the same city as KD; sure, the Knicks' moves on draft night may not have even let that matter, and he still could if Durant really wants out of Brooklyn and decides to go home to DC to play with Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis.

But there's a second layer to this New York almost-serendipity: Davis, a Wisconsin native, isn't a Packers fan, either.

"I'm a Giants fan, actually," he laughed when the Junkies asked him about football. "After they beat the Patriots…I had a lot of relatives who are Giants fans and I saw them all cheering, so I said, 'I'm going to jump on the bandwagon.'"

Fair, given those two Super Bowl wins over the Pats came in February 2008 and 2012, when Davis would've been on the verge of his sixth and tenth birthdays – although the Packers did win the Super Bowl before the second Giants-Pats game, so, family trumps all.

Even more interesting, though, given his father, Mark, grew up in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, so if there was any familial hometown love on that side, it might be DC's own football squad?
