Yankees are second-most hated team in baseball, Mets tied for fourth

Turns out, the Yankees aren't the most hated team in baseball?

At least not this season, as information compiled by BetOnline determined through surveying more than 100 thousand tweets that the reigning champion Dodgers are in fact public enemy No. 1 among baseball fans in 2021.

Using geotags, hashtags, and keywords, BetOnline determined that the Yankees came in second behind the Dodgers, with the Astros coming in third. The "Evil Empire" Yankees are often considered to be the most maligned among MLB fans, but three World Series appearances in four years, including a recent title, coupled with the additions of Max Scherzer and Trea Turner at this year's trade deadline appear to have been enough to change the tide of hatred towards the west coast.

The Yanks also got off to a slow start this year, which may have made them less hated given their lack of success. Meanwhile, the Astros continue to be hated for the sign stealing scandal that clearly nobody has forgotten about.

The Mets came in fourth, tied with the Cardinals and in front of the Cubs.

The data was compiled by state, with nine states claiming the Dodgers as their most hated.
The Yankees had eight states, and the Mets had six. Given the Mets' play of late and the thumbs down controversy, it wouldn't be a surprise if New York was one of the states they claimed.
