The Yankees and Mets are currently the two best teams in baseball based on wins and winning percentage, and baseball fever has completely taken over the Big Apple now that the Rangers are home for the summer.
So now the question can be asked on Tiki & Tierney: How many wins can these two New York juggernauts end up with?
CBS currently has the Yankees projected to win 103 games, the same amount they won under Aaron Boone in 2019, while the Mets are projected to win 99 games, even though they're on pace to win 105.
But what does the crew say? Here were the predictions:
Tiki: Yankees 105-57, Mets 98-64
BT: Yankees 107-55, Mets 99-63
Hoff: Yankees 110-52, Mets 104-58
Dov: Yankees 118-44, Mets 102-60
That's right, Dov predicts the Yankees will break the single-season record for wins, surpassing the 1998 Yanks and the 2001 Mariners. Meanwhile, both Tiki and Tierney believe the Mets won't reach 100 wins despite their current pace, which Pete Hoffman couldn't believe.
"You guys are underestimating how good this Mets team is," Hoff said. "They haven't even brought back Scherzer and deGrom yet. So there you go, 100-plus wins."
But everyone agreed that Dov's prediction was ludicrous. But is it? The Yanks are on pace to win 120 games after Tuesday's win, and while the schedule will continue to get tougher, the Bombers continue to find ways to win.
