BT: Aaron Judge, Jacob deGrom leaving NY would leave 'hole in our baseball soul'

Two of the biggest superstars in New York baseball could be on the move this winter, a potential reality that Brandon Tierney isn't sure the city would ever fully recover from.

"It's gonna be a hole in our baseball soul, maybe forever," BT said of the possibility that both Aaron Judge and Jacob deGrom leave via free agency. "After the season he just gave you, and deGrom, the season he just gave you.

"A Yankees World Series appearance without Aaron Judge wouldn't feel the same. A Mets World Series appearance without Jacob deGrom wouldn't feel the same."

However, both free agents have their question marks. Despite being the best at their respective positions when healthy, both have had their share of injury histories (though Judge's has not been in recent years), and both are above the age of 30. So, when it comes to a pitcher like deGrom, factoring in health, age, and recent performances, BT wouldn't be ready to cut a blank check.

"If I'm running the Mets, there's no way in hell I'm giving him six years," BT said. "I'm not even giving him five.

"He had a chance to do something against the Braves this season, and did not, and the Padres, and he didn't. And he was hurt again this season. Don't act like he won 23 games and he was a beast in October, because he wasn't. Don't rewrite the story."
