MLB insider estimates Aaron Judge contract to eclipse $300 million, Jacob deGrom to break Max Scherzer salary

New York may have arguably the two most notable free agents in baseball this winter in Aaron Judge and Jacob deGrom, and ESPN's Jeff Passan anticipates massive paydays for each Big Apple star.

Judge, who is at 57 home runs and having perhaps the greatest contract year in baseball history, turned down a $230 million deal from the Yanks this past offseason that would have paid him $30.5 million per year. Judge was clearly wise to turn that down and bet on himself, as Passan now sees Judge signing a contract over $300 million as he flirts with home run history and a potential triple crown.

DeGrom, likely to opt out of his deal with the Mets, has an ERA of 2.01 since making his season debut. Injuries certainly hang over the New York ace and top pitcher in the league, but if deGrom stays healthy down the stretch and into the postseason, Passan notes that deGrom will "almost assuredly" break teammate Max Scherzer's AAV record of $43.3 million that he signed this past offseason.

Other Mets free agents are noted, as Passan believes Brandon Nimmo to earn perhaps more than the four-year, $78 million deal Starling Marte signed this past winter, and expects Chris Bassitt to be in "high demand."
