All five Mets, Yankees decline qualifying offers

All five New York players have rejected the MLB qualifying offers, meaning that the Mets could be in for up to three compensatory picks following the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft, and the Yankees in line for one.

However, the Yankees could still receive a compensatory pick for Aaron Judge, while the Mets saw Jacob deGrom, Brandon Nimmo, and Chris Bassitt all reject the team's qualifying offer.

All four had been expected, with deGrom (who opted out of a guaranteed $34 million for 2023) and Judge both slam dunks to decline. Nimmo was a most likely decline, as he is expected to be seeking a long-term deal worth nine figures, and Bassitt, who opted out of $19 million for 2023, was a longshot to accept although a slim possibility.

The Mets' and Yankees' potential comp picks are after the fourth round because they both exceeded the Competitive Balance Tax threshold in 2022.

Only two of the 14 MLB players given qualifying offers accepted the one-year deal: Giants outfielder Joc Pederson and Rangers LHP Martin Perez.
