The Mets took care of the Yankees again on Wednesday, and while there will be a chance for the Bombers to get some payback next month, the two teams can't help but feel a sense of excitement about potentially meeting up again in October.
Matt Carpenter and Pete Alonso shared that sentiment during an exchange in Wednesday's game.
"I said to Alonso when I got to first base, 'This feels like a potential World Series matchup, it would be pretty cool,'" Matt Carpenter said, via Mike Puma of the New York Post. "[Alonso] said 'I would love that.'"
Many in New York [except for maybe Evan Roberts] would love that potential Subway Series in the Fall Classic, and a boisterous crowd at Citi Field on Tuesday and Wednesday night would sound like a library compared to what would be heard if the two teams squared off in the World Series.
That's still a ways away and a lot would have to happen, but New Yorkers, and the players themselves, can still dream.
