Aaron Boone celebrated his 50th birthday on Thursday morning by turning the clock back to 2003.
Sure, it wasn’t against a knuckleballer or in front of 55,000 fans in the Bronx to end the ALCS, but the Yankee manager stepped in for batting practice at spring training to prove he can still go deep despite his age. Sure enough, Boone rocked a homer to left field, quite close to where his ball landed off of Tim Wakefield in one of the most memorable moments in franchise history.
It took Boone a few times, but he knew this one was gone right off the bat, pimping the shot as his players celebrated behind him.
Maybe someone fetched the long ball as a birthday memento for hitting the landmark number of 50.
