Corey Kluber made his second rehab outing on Tuesday, throwing 56 pitches and allowing three runs on two hits (walking two and striking out four) in three-plus innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
His outing came in the resumption of a suspended game – one that Luis Gil, who started the nightcap of the Yankees’ doubleheader in the Bronx Tuesday, had actually started initially on July 17 – and he took over in what was the sixth inning, pitching into the ninth and getting the win in the 7-4 SWB victory.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone watched the outing Wednesday afternoon, and was encouraged.
“I thought he threw the ball really well. I thought the stuff was good, the shapes on pitches were strong, and the 56 pitches were another uptick there,” Boone said. “The first outing, I thought the stuff was okay despite the line, and I thought it was better this time out. I don’t think his cutter is quite where he wants it to be yet, but I’m encouraged by what I’m seeing from his stuff, and I think he is as well.”

According to Boone, Kluber was at Yankee Stadium Wednesday and “felt normal” for his day-after physical condition, and the skipper said the plan is for Kluber to make another rehab start somewhere on Sunday, hopefully with another uptick in pitches and length.
And then from there?
“Yeah, he could soon be an option for us,” Boone said. “So far we’ve been encouraged by the progress he’s making and the buildup he’s doing.”
