Aaron Boone hopeful Rougned Odor's knee injury 'a short-term thing'

When the Yankees announced Wednesday that they had put infielder Rougned Odor on the 10-day injured list with a left knee sprain, manager Aaron Boone said the infielder was undergoing an MRI to determine the severity, and they were hopeful it was a short-term injury.

Thursday morning, prior to the Yankees' series finale with the Astros, Boone saw Odor and re-confirmed that notion, although he still wouldn't put a timetable on the infielder's return outside of the 10-day injured list stint.

“He's doing better, but I don’t have an exact timetable because it’s one of those things that will be symptomatic as far as his ramp up,” Boone said. “As the symptoms kind of start to dissipate, he’ll start to ramp up. I don’t think it’s going to be a long thing still, but it’s going to be day to day here. We’ll see how he starts to ramp up and how he’s responding each and every day.”

Odor, who is hitting .169 with four home runs in 19 games this season, was hurt Tuesday on a collision at home plate in the sixth inning of the Yankees' win over Houston, and the team was optimistic as early as postgame that Odor wasn't too seriously hurt.

"He does have that minor sprain. I think all things considered, we kind of lucked out. I think you saw my reaction and jumped onto the field because it looked ugly to me right away. I was pretty concerned," Boone said after that game.
