Aaron Judge heard some boos after his fourth strikeout of the game, and seventh of the series, during Friday’s game two loss to the Guardians.
Did that response from the crowd surprise Aaron Boone?
“It’s the Bronx, man,” Boone chuckled.
Still, Judge is playing in just his third game since setting the Yankee home run record and likely capping off an MVP season, so the boos were a bit unexpected. But Judge has looked disjointed at the plate through the first two games of the series, going hitless in eight at-bats with seven strikeouts. His last at-bat of Friday’s game was the first time he has put a ball in play this series, a groundout to third.
“Timing’s a little off and I have to fix it,” Judge said.
Neither Boone or Judge sound particularly concerned about the slugger’s first two games, though it was the continuation of a rough postseason history against Cleveland since his rookie season and playoff debut in 2017.
“I think a lot of the day, they executed against him,” Boone said. “The couple of pitches he’s gotten to hit, he’s fouled off.
“It’s baseball. You’re up against the best….great hitters for 0-fer on a given day. Great hitters fail more often than they succeed, even when they’re rolling… He'll get back on the horse and be as dangerous as they come [Saturday] night.”
