Aaron Boone is out of the hospital after undergoing surgery to have a pacemaker implanted on Wednesday, and he provided his followers an update on Twitter Friday morning.
Boone, who hopes to be back with the Yankees “sooner than later,” shared a hopeful message following Wednesday’s news that Boone would be going on and immediate medical leave of absence to receive a pacemaker meant to treat a heart condition he has dealt with since college.
“To all of you that have reached out to me, prayed for me, or wished me well – THANK YOU!,” Boone said. “Support has been overwhelming and humbling.”
Brian Cashman and many Yankees players expressed their relief after hearing that pacemaker surgery has become a simple procedure in modern medicine and often yields a full recovery, and after the Yankees provided a Wednesday night update that Boone was out of surgery and in good spirits, Boone confirmed it in his own Friday update.
“I feel great and can’t wait to be back real soon,” Boone said.
Cashman said Wednesday night that Boone’s return could happen in “as early as 48 to 72 hours,” though he would have to go back through the leagues’ COVID intake protocols. Carlos Mendoza is currently serving as the interim manager.
