Aaron Boone on response to open roof comments: 'I just answered a question'

Aaron Boone was widely criticized after the Yankees’ game two loss on Thursday night when he noted the open roof at Minute Maid Park potentially playing a role in keeping Aaron Judge’s deep flyout from instead being a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning.

Some saw it as an excuse, though Statcast numbers did have Judge’s ball, based on exit velocity and launch angle, traveling much further under normal circumstances without the heavy wind blowing in from right field, and Boone defended his comments on Saturday before game three.

“The comments I made, I just answered a question,” Boone said. “I mean, I don't know that I came in there commenting on something. I just was asked a question.”

The wind could be a factor again in game three with the series shifting to the open skies of Yankee Stadium and the fall temperature in the Bronx, and the Yanks can only hope Mother Nature is a little friendlier on Saturday.

“Obviously it will be a little chillier here,” Boone said. “It looks, it seems to be a nice day. But we'll get out there. And the wind's always a little bit different day-in and day-out here.”
