Aaron Boone has yet to be told he will be back as Yankees manager in 2024

Aaron Boone told reporters on Monday that he has yet to be told if he is definitively back as Yankees manager next season.

Having now been mathematically eliminated from the postseason (that now includes three Wild Card teams) after taking World Series expectations out of spring training, Boone acknowledged the “sobering” reality of the Yanks playing meaningless baseball for the first time in his tenure as manager.

As for his future as manager, Boone, with one year left on his contract, said he isn’t thinking about his job potentially being on the line after a disappointing season.

“I don’t worry about it. It’s out of my hands,” Boone said. “I’m completely comfortable with who I am and the things I can control. In my mind, I’m doing everything to head into the offseason prepared to put us in a better position to try and compete for a championship. That’s what the goal is, and until they take that away, that’s my focus.”

Asked if he agrees with Aaron Judge’s assessment that a lot of things around the team need to be changed, Boone said the organization will absolutely take Judge’s thoughts into account.

“I think there are things we need to change and fix and make sure we’re on the same page with everything, and we’ll be asking those questions,” Boone said. “All in all, we have to do a better job.”

Like Judge, Boone wouldn’t go into specifics.

“That’s not to go into here,” Boone said. “There are things I’m thinking about all the time…you have your personal thoughts and things that we’ll get into at length. Unfortunately, we’ll have a lot of time for that.”
