Is Aaron Judge out to take Anthony Rizzo’s job?
Well, no, but the Yankees $360 million man was sporting a first baseman’s mitt at camp on Tuesday, taking grounders in the infield, taking throws at first from infielders, and getting some work in at a position he’s never played before.
It’s all part of the lax atmosphere of mid February, when pitchers and catchers report for spring training, while position players who have arrived early get some swings in, and in Judge’s case, some experience at a new position.
Judge’s preparation for the 2023 season comes with big expectations after setting the American League home run record last season, then signing a massive contract in the offseason before being named the first Yankee captain since Derek Jeter.
