The Yankees have their big bat back in the lineup, as Aaron Judge was activated off the COVID-19 list on Tuesday and is batting second for the Bombers in their series opener against the Rays.
Judge will also play right field at the Trop, and Boone told Carton and Roberts on that the slugger will likely get at least a half day off during the series to ease him back into regular play.
Judge has easily been the Yankees’ best hitter this season, batting .282 with a .901 OPS and 21 home runs through 360 plate appearances. He hasn’t played since July 11 due to a positive COVID-19 test, one of several positives in the Yankee clubhouse around the All-Star break.
One of the other positive cases on the team was backup catcher Kyle Higashioka, who was also activated on Tuesday.
The Yanks could be getting more reinforcements back this week, as Boone told Carton and Roberts that Luke Voit’s return is imminent, and could happen at some point in the Rays series, and if not, very likely in Miami against the Marlins this weekend.
