As the Yankees continue to seemingly shift their organizational philosophy, Core Four member Andy Pettitte is back in pinstripes as a special advisor to Aaron Boone,
The move, which comes after Dillon Lawson was replaced by longtime big leaguer Sean Casey as hitting coach, is one that Boone said had been in the works for a while, before the COVID pandemic complicated things.
But, now that Pettitte is back, Boone hopes to maximize the former lefty great’s availability to assist the pitching staff.
“Took longer than I would have liked, but excited to get him back in the mix,’’ Boone said. “As I tell him, the more he can be here, the better.”
Pettitte brings recent coaching experience, as he was the pitching coach for Team USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, and of course, a familiarity with the franchise. He will be in and out with the team, due to his commitments back home in the Houston area, but Boone says whenever Pettitte is available, they will make room for him on the road or in the Bronx.
